Welcome to the NMPC Public Involvement in Research Website!

We are pleased to be able to launch this public involvement website on 12th January 2026! This website has been developed by the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care, King’s College London through the Inclusive Research and Education Practices (IREP) Project Working Group 3 funded by Research England. This project aims to increase the diversity of patient and public involvement members.

How to use this website:

The intention of this website is to share opportunities and events hosted by both King’s College London and our local communities. Click on the image blow to watch a video tour of the website!

(Video coming soon!)

If you would like to share a news item or an event from your community or research team, please complete one of the following forms and a member of the team will post it on the website. You can also click on the buttons on the right hand side of any page on the website.

Development of the Website:

Within the Inclusive Research and Education Practises project, we have been, and continue to, work with communities to develop this platform. Communities were keen to develop a website that can facilitate:

  • In person events run by communities and King’s College London
  • Relationship building
  • Equal partnership between communities and King’s College London
  • Resources and support for communities, individuals, and researchers

Staff working in public involvement related roles across King’s Health Partners (King’s College London, Guy’s and St. Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust) have also recently shared that the following aims are important for them to enable more meaningful public involvement within research projects:

  • Clear and consistent resources/training for researchers
  • Creating and developing connections with communities
  • Awareness of funding for public involvement
  • More collaboration across the university

This website is developed from the model used for the Cicely Saunders Institute (CSI) Online Forum which was initially co-developed in 2015. After 10 years of engaging with our public involvement community we are pleased to be able to share the way we work across our full Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care Faculty.

The above figure shoes the model of successful online patient and public involvement. Click here for the publication to find out more about the public perspectives of the CSI Online Forum.

Between January and June 2026, the IREP PPI working group, in collaboration with the Better Health and Care Hub, will continue to connect with communities to hear their feedback on this website and make changes to ensure this can be a resource that is beneficial and accessible to both communities and researchers in a way that can encourage further impact of the public on research projects.

Purpose:

The purpose of this website is to bring patients, families, and members of the public together to share ideas and get involved in research. Our goal is to make our research more accessible to the people we serve, and your contributions will ensure that the patient and public voice is included in our research.

Our public involvement strategy outlines priorities of being respectful, inclusive, and flexible. With this in mind, we aim to continuously update this site to ensure it is has recent and relevant information that is beneficial for communities.
