SUMMARY:Science is open - Lab visits from a public perspective
DESCRIPTION:Public members are vital collaborators to ensure relevant and effective research. This project aims to raise awareness and increase transparency for the ‘behind-the-scenes’ work that goes on within labs\, for example\, getting results from blood tests or biopsies. \nOver the past 4 months\, public members have visited five labs that research the lungs\, cancer\, the heart\, maternal health\, and arthritis. Their experience has been insightful and they have taken photos of how various samples are processed. We are excited to share these photos with you at this event!

SUMMARY:How to Initiate Public Involvement in Health Research: Launch of the 'Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE)' Toolkit
DESCRIPTION:How can a patient advisory group be established for research? Where can potential members be identified? What does a compensation policy for public contributors look like\, and where should the process begin? The Ziauddin University Patient & Public Involvement and Engagement group in Pakistan has developed a toolkit to address these questions. The toolkit provides practical guidance and ready-to-use templates covering all stages of setting up a public involvement initiative in health research. On 31 March\, the toolkit will be launched internationally. The event will include an introduction from the development team in Pakistan\, presentations from researchers in Pakistan\, Ireland\, India\, and Japan who have piloted the toolkit\, and an opportunity for discussion\, questions\, and feedback. The launch webinar will outline how the toolkit can support the initiation of public involvement initiatives in health research across different global contexts.

SUMMARY:Inclusive Research and Co-design in Digital Health
DESCRIPTION:King’s Health Partners Digital Health Hub \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree Workshop: Inclusive Research and Co-design in Digital Health \nThe King’s Health Partners Digital Health Hub is running a free workshop on inclusive research and co-design in digital health\, online on Wednesday 25th March\, 2pm-4pm. Click here to book.  \nDigital health initiatives often have uneven engagement once deployed in real-world settings\, raising important digital equity considerations. Trust\, prior institutional experience\, data confidence\, and structural inequality shape whether digital tools are adopted long-term. This online workshop will examine the practical implications of these dynamics. It will focus on how inclusive research and co-design approaches can strengthen recruitment\, improve the credibility of engagement processes\, and support more reliable adoption in complex\, real-world settings. \nThe workshop will cover: \n\nHow mistrust and structural inequality influence digital health engagement\nWhy access and usability alone do not resolve participation gaps\nThe role of data confidence and institutional history in shaping uptake\nRecruitment and communication strategies for digitally excluded and low-trust groups\nApplying inclusive research principles to digital testing\, piloting and implementation\n\n  \nThis session will be guest facilitated by Muhammed Rauf from Elysium London. It is open to you if you are a UK-based health or care professional\, manager\, researcher\, student\, patient\, family carer\, or Small to Medium sized Enterprise using a co-design process and methods to develop a digital health technology. You can be at any stage of a project.

SUMMARY:Troubling Participatory Research
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\n\nHow do we get value-led collaborations off the ground? Bringing together researchers to explore turning ideas into participatory research \n\n\n\n\nHow do we get value‑led collaborations off the ground? \nPartnering with “experts by experience” is increasingly vital across health\, environmental and technological research yet recognising lived expertise in an equal partnership can trouble traditional research frameworks. This meeting explores how we begin research partnerships that can navigate complex power dynamics and “stay with the trouble”\, especially when working on sensitive or controversial topics. \nThe day will bring together university and community researchers. We will share our experiences of turning ideas like power sharing\, mutual benefit\, and trust into real world research. We will explore how treating these values as contested concepts can become the guiding principle for research that respects all forms of knowledge \nPlease note: This is an ‘in person’ meeting only – there will be no recording or Zoom/Teams link.

SUMMARY:Dementia Community Research Network (DCRN) Event
DESCRIPTION:Based on a co-production workshop in November\, we created a guide to help researchers facilitate wider inclusion in dementia research.\n\nIt would be great to have you join this event! This guide would be particularly relevant for people in the beginning of their research career to facilitate further involvement in research. Further details are in the flyer below. The event will take place in the Council Room at the Strand Campus from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.

SUMMARY:King's MRC Public Partnership Programme Information Session
DESCRIPTION:New King’s/MRC Public Partnership Fund: Supporting MRC applicants to involve public contributors at pre-application stage. \nWe are delighted to announce the upcoming launch of a new funding scheme to support early career researchers and those looking to transition to research independence to better involve public partners in the development of their MRC grant applications. \nAs outlined in the MRC’s Public Partnership Strategy\, the MRC is placing a greater emphasis on the meaningful involvement of public partners in the shaping of the research it funds. Such partnerships with patients and/or communities during grant development has been shown to increase the relevance of research proposals and their potential for impact. \nOpening in January 2026\, the King’s/MRC Public Partnership programme will provide funds of up to £400 to successful applicants\, along with mentorship from experts in patient and public involvement\, to support early-stage public involvement. \nAn information session will be held on Wednesday the 14th of January at 13:30\, ahead of the schemes launch on Monday 19th of January. \nYou can sign-up to the information session here. \nFor more information\, please get in touch with the King’s MRC Public Partnership Team at MRC-PPF@kcl.ac.uk

SUMMARY:NIHR 'PPI in Action'
DESCRIPTION:Please find details below of the tenth webinar in our NIHR ‘PPI in Action’ webinar series that you may be interested in\n\n \n\nOur next webinar of the series is called: SCIENCE – Powered by Parents\n\n \n\nAbout this event:\n\n \n\nSCIENCE – Powered by Parents is a fun walk-through of how families have helped shape the NIHR SCIENCE trial from idea to implementation. We’ll take a light-hearted\, behind-the-scenes tour of how parents influenced the design\, delivery and dissemination of the study – keeping everything practical\, doable and genuinely family-friendly.\n\n \n\nExpect real examples of how small tweaks from families made a big difference – improving recruitment\, smoothing delivery\, and transforming the way results are shared. This open\, interactive session celebrates a simple truth: research works best when families are in the room…..and with a bit of luck\, we’ll be perfectly timed for the study’s results to appear in The Lancet!\n\n \n\nNext steps and further information:\n\n \n\nThe tenth webinar is taking place on 14th January 2026 12:30 – 13:30. You can register using the following link: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_nUElcgg5Twu3wKL4ews79g#/registration\n\n \n\nOnce registration closes\, further details will be sent to everyone who has reserved a ticket.\n\n \n\nThe event lasts for 1 hour with a 30-minute presentation and 30 minutes allocated for Q&A.\n\n \n\nPlease note this event will be held online\, through Zoom.\n\n \n\nThe event will be recorded and shared with those who have registered as well as publicly on our NIHR platforms and may be downloaded in countries where data protection legislation differs from the UK.\n\n \n\nShould you wish to join anonymously please refer to the following guidance: https://support.zoom.com/hc/en/article?id=zm_kb&sysparm_article=KB0063788
