SUMMARY:Working in partnership with VCSE organisations in health research
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a half-day training for academics and researchers looking to collaborate with the VCSE sector! \n\n\n\n\nThe South East London VCSE sector is often a long-standing and trusted source of health and wellbeing support for individuals and families. It also plays a key role in addressing health inequalities\, supporting and advocating for the needs of local communities\, and typically provides essential services to the those who are most vulnerable and marginalised. Working collaboratively with VCSE organisations as equitable partners offers an important route to ethically engaging with communities in health research. \nThis one-day training will explore: \n\nWhat good community-led research and ethical community involvement looks like in practice\nThe benefits of partnership working with the VCSE across the research lifecycle\nDifferent types of relationships and models for partnership working\nThe principles for successful partnership working\nThe practical steps to develop partnerships.\n\nThis training has specifically been designed for academics and researchers working in health research who are keen to work more collaboratively with community organisations and communities in South East London. \nWorking in partnership with VCSE organisations in health research Tickets\, Thursday 29 October  •  9 AM – 12 PM | Eventbrite

SUMMARY:QSIG Midday Talk: Co-designing storyboards of lived experience and setting research priorities to address dementia care inequities
DESCRIPTION:This session explores the opportunities and challenges of conducting research with LGBTQ+ people with lived experience of dementia\, an underserved population both in research and service provision. The session draws on a co-design project in which an academic team\, experts-by-experience\, and a visual artist collaborated as equal to produce research outputs. The underlying ethos was based on the principle of ‘to each their own (expertise)’\, principles for good practice. \nThe session will first introduce the concept of underserved communities\, based on NIHR definition. It will then illustrate why LGBTQ+ people experiencing dementia are an underserved population in research and service provision. Some of the distinct experiences and added challenges of LGBTQ+ people living with dementia will then be presented\, including multiple forms of stigma\, risks of social isolation\, impact of dementia on identity and relationships and inequity in dementia services. The session will then describe methodologically the three elements of a UCL-Grand-Challenges project that the team undertook\, comprising: 1. co-designed storyboards capturing lived experiences of dementia with LGBTQ+ community members; 2. Stakeholder workshops to set together research priorities for future LGBTQ+ dementia research; and 3. A final public dissemination and impact community event. The session will reflect on practical and methodological challenges\, such as funding constraints\, managing diverse perspectives\, safeguarding privacy\, and building trusted partnerships. \nAttendees will have an opportunity to hear both from the perspective of the academic team\, as well as one of the collaborators with lived experience. They will derive some reflective points and strategies on conducting inclusive\, community-engaged research with underserved populations. \nClick here for further details\, and please find the Teams link below. This will be sent out again a week before the event and on the day. You can also find a .ics calendar invite here. \n________________________________________________________________________________ \nMicrosoft Teams meeting \nJoin: https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/349522643705513?p=HAv8wOcw4BpyADQIjv \nMeeting ID: 349 522 643 705 513 \nPasscode: C6t2jA9Q

SUMMARY:NIHR CEI Showcase 2026
DESCRIPTION:The second NIHR Community Engagement and Involvement (CEI) Showcase 2026 is a virtual event designed to inspire\, share learning\, and celebrate CEI across the NIHR Global Health Research (GHR) portfolio. This event provides a platform to demonstrate how people\, communities — including patients\, carers\, community groups and organisations\, service providers\, commissioners\, and policymakers — and research teams can come together using CEI approaches that make a real difference to research and beyond. \nCEI is a core principle of NIHR GHR. It is the active involvement of communities throughout the research process\, using participatory approaches and working in partnership with key stakeholders to improve the relevance\, value\, and conduct of health research. When done effectively\, CEI enhances research relevance\, improves study design\, and delivers tangible benefits to communities and health systems. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat’s on offer?\nCarefully curated sessions will spotlight diverse case studies from across the NIHR GHR portfolio. Twenty NIHR GHR Award holders will present their CEI and illustrate its influence on research\, local communities\, and the broader health landscape. Presentations will be followed by Q&A sessions and cover the following themes:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSustainability through community capacity strengthening and strategies to bridge the gap between research and policy\nTechniques for tracking and evidencing CEI change pathways\n\nThe event will be in English\, with closed captions available in multiple languages. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho should attend?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event is open to anyone with an interest in CEI and global health research. \nYou could be: \n\nEarly career CEI practitioners who want to learn about the theory and practice of CEI\nExperienced CEI practitioners who want to affirm good practice\nResearchers with an interest in CEI\nResearch funders and managers\nMembers of non-governmental and civil society organisations\nPolicymakers and law administrators

SUMMARY:Participatory Research Ethics Surgery: communicating lived experience roles in research
DESCRIPTION:Please click here to book and email NIHR-RSS@kcl.ac.uk with any queries.\nThese ethics workshops are run by the NIHR Research Support service and Inspiring Ethics. In these group sessions we help researchers navigate the nitty-gritty of ethical procedures and processes around participatory research. \nThis session will explore why contracts often reproduce hierarchy rather than protect lived experienced collaborators. We look at co-researcher contracts\, university assumptions of “vulnerability” around mental health and lived experience\, IP clauses\, liability\, and when refusing a contract is the ethical choice.
